PROFESSIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS
Certified
facilitator for Susan Jeffers',
“Feel the Fear and Do It
Anyway”®
workshops.
My career began in 1971 as a
State Registered Nurse at
The Royal Infirmary, Bolton,
followed by 12 months additional
psychiatric training at The
Retreat, in York.
Studying for my varied
Counselling Skills began in 1983
at the Kings Fund Centre
in London and included
certification with “Cruse”
(Counselling Course on
Death, Dying, Bereavement, Loss
and Separation).
Specific training in addictions
began in 1986 through the
Professionals in Residence
Training Program, at the
Hazelden Foundation in
Minnesota, USA, an
internationally renowned
rehabilitation centre for the
treatment of alcoholism and drug
addiction. The program includes
family therapy and an
integrative style of counselling
that incorporates Person
Centred Therapy and
Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy,
offering a much more direct
approach than many other
therapies.
Between 1992-1994, I continued Person Centred Counselling
training, also known as the
Rogerian style counselling as well
as completing both an
Assertiveness Training
program, and Co-dependency
training courses with the
Drug and Alcohol Foundation,
in Farnborough, Hampshire. The
latter was facilitated by Pia
Melody, Director of the Meadows
Rehabilitation Centre,
Arizona USA.
Prior to building my private
practice, I worked as a
volunteer for the Drug and
Alcohol Foundation, before
commencing over 16 years of
employment in Rehabilitation
Treatment Centres, helping
people with all aspects of
Addiction. These centres also
included emotional, mental and
medical problems.
I have a diploma in ITEC
Holistic Body Massage,
a certification in Indian
Head and Shoulder Massage and have taken
first and second degree courses
in the Usui System of ‘REIKI’
Healing.
For the past 29 years, I have
been a member of the Royal
College of Nursing, which
follows the Ethics, Guidelines
and Practices of The Nursing
and Midwifery Council -
standards of conduct,
confidentiality, performance and
ethics for nurses and midwives.
